Ron Wright

Ron Charles Wright
Lesley Ure | FIND OUT MORE
Ron Wright started life in Scotland where his father worked for the Royal Marine Police guarding the Dockyards and Naval establishments.

A change of job brought the family to the South Coast, where Ron became an apprentice bricklayer in the dockyard.

In 1944 he was called up to serve in the Navy as a stoker in the engine room of surface fleet, but transferred to the Submarine Service at HMS Dolphin.

He came out of the service early due to his occupation as a bricklayer and went into a ‘B Release Scheme’ housebuilding. He spent three years in Singapore supervising building works in the naval dockyard.

When he returned to the UK, Ron continued with the Ministry of Public Building and Works at Collingwood and Daedalus.

Ron sadly passed away in November 2022, aged 98. His daughter is shown holding a portrait of Ron when he joined the Navy.
