Lesley Ure

Andy Dinsdale | Ron Wright
Lesley grew up in Armed Forces Accommodation in Gosport as her father was a shipwright for the Ministry of Defence. She met Midge, a submariner, when she was 18-years-old and two years later they moved to Glasgow and started a family.

Less than three years passed before the family moved back to Gosport where they have remained ever since. More than twenty years later, Lesley is now delivering positive parenting strategies with Armed Forces families.

During our interview, Lesley provided really valuable insight into the life of a submariner’s family, how they coped with the absence and return of the submariner, the support networks and more.

Having grown up, moved away and returned to Gosport, Lesley was also able to chart the changes to the Borough.
