Midge Ure

Alexander Ure
Don Cleavin | Steve Thorpe
As a young man, Midge Ure had hoped to follow in his Father’s footsteps and become a deep sea fisherman, but was deterred by his Father and encouraged to join the Navy.

After his O-Levels Midge joined the Navy on an Engineering Apprenticeship and became a Marine Engineer. He volunteered to join the Submarine Service and began the next stage of training.

Life in the Submarine Service meant Midge travelled the World, in a variety of roles, but the camaraderie of being a Submariner has stayed with him throughout.

Midge no longer works underwater, but now trains Submarine Fleet and is heavily involved with the move of training from Dolphin to SMERAS in Faslane.
