Whistling at sea dates back again to the time of sail. Anybody caught whistling at sea is immediately frowned upon because you’re whistling up a bad wind.

The only person who was allowed to whistle at sea was the Chef, because if he was whistling, he wasn’t eating the victuals.

That’s the way they looked at it.

The only person allowed to whistle onboard was the Chef, because if he was whistling, it meant he wasn’t eating your food (laughs).
