The crew were really good, looked after me. It was quite an International crew. We had Australians, Canadians, two Israelis.

Simon: Right. Training up?

No, they were part of the crew, ‘cos they were building submarines for the Canadian Navy at the time and the Australian Navy. They were building ‘O’ Class submarines for those.

They would send these guys over; they would train up and they would become part of the British submarine’s crew until sort of their submarines were more or less completed build and then they’d go.

So, a lot of these, we had a Dutchman on there as well. It was a really mixed crew and really good. Everybody gelled you know.
